Come Visit Me At Money Saving Mom!

After a day at the lake, I came home to a pleasant surprise! I'm a guest writer at Money Saving Mom today! Well, I did know that it was coming; I just didn't know when. My post is about our Frugal Food Night each Wednesday. You've heard me mention it in the "What's Cooking" sidebar... now you can read the details.

Crystal does a wonderful job keeping me in the loop with coupons and special deals. She also keeps me thinking frugally. I enjoy her blog and her positive perspective on mothering. So, hop on over to read my post and browse around on her blog if you have not been there yet!

Happy Summer!

I saw your post on MSM. This is the first time I've been to your site, so I haven't had time to check it out completely. But I am interested in your thoughts on homeschooling a preschooler.

Hi Sarah! I don't usually post about topics other than health. My quick thoughts on homeschooling a preschooler are:

1. A child's best early education is life... working in the kitchen, working in the garden, doing household chores, talking with mama, reading tons of books, playing games, being inventive with free time. Keep your preschooler with you and learning will happen.
2. My preschoolers benefited from some sit down and learn time. Not all little children do, but mine enjoyed the time of more focused learning. We used the Rod and Staff preschool books. But like I said in #1, most learning happens while living.
3. We visited the library OFTEN and read, read, read. As a consequence, each of my preschoolers has wanted to learn how to read at an early age. To accomodate their desires, we have used Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons with great success.

Hope these thoughts help! Just enjoy your preschooler... and include them in everything you do. I still do this with my littles, even though I have older children. I really think children thrive in fellowship with their mamas.

Peace and joy, Amy Ellen
